Publish an XML sitemap
Why it matters
A sitemap lists the pages you want search engines to find, which helps new and deep pages get discovered. Without one, crawlers rely on following links alone.
The fix
- Generate a sitemap with your CMS, framework or a sitemap generator and publish it at https://example.com/sitemap.xml. Use absolute https URLs on the same host and UTF-8 encoding.
- Add a Sitemap line with its full address to robots.txt, and submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
- Keep it under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file; use a sitemap index beyond that.
sitemap.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> <url> <loc>https://example.com/</loc> <lastmod>2026-01-01</lastmod> </url> </urlset>
The examples use example.com. Replace it with your own domain.
