Contact your registrar now to restore the domain
Why it matters
The domain is in the redemption period or about to be deleted, so it is at risk of being released for anyone to register. Restoring is still possible only during a limited window and usually costs a fee.
The fix
- Contact your registrar immediately by phone or support ticket, not only email. Ask to restore the domain from redemption.
- Expect a restoration fee on top of the renewal fee. Pay it and renew for several years.
- Be aware that the final pending delete stage is short, and for generic domains nobody can restore it during that stage. Country-code domains follow their own rules, so ask your registrar. If the domain drops, you may need to try to register it again when it is released.
- After restoration, reset the nameservers if they were removed, check the website and email, turn on auto-renew and review who receives notices.
- If the domain cannot be restored, move to a new domain and update your email, links, and any services that use the old name.
bash
# no whois command? Look the domain up at https://lookup.icann.org/ instead whois example.com | grep -i -E "status|expir"
The examples use example.com. Replace it with your own domain.
