Add a canonical link to the homepage
Why it matters
A canonical link names the one address you want search engines to treat as the real homepage, so versions with tracking parameters or without www do not compete with each other. Without it, search engines choose for you.
The fix
- Add one link element with rel="canonical" to the head of the homepage, with the full absolute https address of the preferred version.
- Use the same address on the page itself, in your sitemap and in your internal links, and add a self-referencing canonical to the other pages as well.
html
<link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/"> The examples use example.com. Replace it with your own domain.
