Add a viewport meta tag
Why it matters
Without a viewport tag, phones show the page as a tiny desktop layout. Google indexes the mobile version of your site, so a page that is not mobile-ready can rank lower.
The fix
- Add the viewport meta tag to the head of every page. Do not add user-scalable=no or a maximum-scale below 5, which stop visitors from zooming.
- Check that your CSS actually adapts to narrow screens, then open the page on a phone or in the DevTools mobile view.
