Add a meta description to the homepage on WordPress

Why it matters

The meta description is often the text shown under your link in search results, and without it search engines pick a random piece of the page. A clear description helps people decide to click.

The fix

1. WordPress core has no field for it, so use an SEO plugin (such as Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO or SEOPress). Open its homepage or search appearance settings and write the description.
2. Reload the homepage source and look for the description meta tag to confirm.
