Add a title to the homepage on WordPress
Why it matters
The title is the headline of your search result and the label of the browser tab, so a page without one looks unfinished and ranks worse. Search engines will make up a title if you do not write one.
The fix
- Set the site title under Settings, General. Modern themes print it as the title automatically.
- If the title is still missing, your theme may not declare title support. A block theme handles it itself; for a classic theme, add add_theme_support( 'title-tag' ) to functions.php, or choose an updated theme. An SEO plugin can also set a custom homepage title template.
functions.php (child theme)
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', function () { add_theme_support( 'title-tag' ); } );
